The best KernelCare patch type for you depends on your operating system. Consult with the chart below to find the most suitable patch type for your situation.
Select the patch type
I have CloudLinux 6, 7, or hybrid: use the default patch type
I have CentOS 6, CenOS 7, or Amazon Linux 2
- I have a KernelCare Subscription: extra
- I do NOT have a KernelCare Subscription: edf (free)
Set the patch type
Once you have determined which patch type is for you, use the following command to set up kernel care to use it:
kcarectl --set-patch-type [default|extra|edf]
Errors
If you select the wrong patch type, when you run commands like the above to set the type or the following system checks:
- kcarectl --update
- kcarectl --check
you may see errors such as:
- The `extra` type patch is not found for your kernel. Please select existing patch type
- 'extra' patch type is unavailable for your kernel
