Symptoms

AutoSSL fails with the error:

ERROR “exampledomain.tld” is unmanaged. Verify this domain’s registration and authoritative
nameserver configuration to correct this problem.

 

Description 

The above error will happen for a couple of reasons:

  1. You do not control the nameservers the domain is using.
  2. The firewall is incorrectly configured.  

 

Workaround

To address possible issue number 1, please reach out to the administrator of the nameservers the domain is using. 

To address the possible issue in number 2, please ensure that port 53 is open on the server or any router firewalls (if the server is in a NAT environment) and allow for both TCP and UDP inward and outward connections.
