EA4 downloads slow AlmaLinux/CentOS 8 ( fastestmirror not in use )

Symptoms

During EasyApache 4 updates, the downloads are slow, or the mirror in use while downloading the files is far from the server.

 

Description

Servers before AlmaLinux and CentOS 8 were using the fastestmirror plugin for the package manager system YUM. AlmaLinux and CentOS 8 servers don't have the fastestmirror enabled in DNF configuration files. The fastestmirror option allows the package manager to pick the mirror with the fastest connection to the server.

We've opened an internal case for our development team to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is CPANEL-40769. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product. 

 

Workaround

Enable fastestmirror in the EA4 repo configuration file:

echo "fastestmirror=True" >> /etc/yum.repos.d/EA4.repo
