Confused about Nameservers and my Domain

I am migrating from a rented Cpanel account to my own WHM/Cpanel server. I fresh installed WHM/Cpanel and i've gotten stuck moving my domains over. So, I had my domains pointing to my reseller's nameservers, and I could manage the zones from the old cpanel install. For my new install, I have no idea how i'm supposed to give them control over the zones. So, I found and enabled Bind DNS server within WHM, and set my domains to the name server it gave (ns1.mydomain.com), I then realized that the domain I want to use as the nameserver name needs to be pointed to a nameserver, but oviously it can't resolve itself to itself? AS in, mydomain.com having its nameserver ns1.mydomain.com and now I am just totally lost and confused and don't know what to do. THank You for your help. I have root, ssh access. Cpanel Version 11.68.0.27 Centons 6.9

    I am having similar problems, I can bring up a website on my server but an email@myaddress.org.uk returns an error: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: email@myaddress.org.uk Unrouteable address Ant attached a file saying: Reporting-MTA: dns; "sending server address" Action: failed Final-Recipient: rfc822;email@myaddress.org.uk Status: 5.0.0

    Since you were using your reseller's nameserver perviously, perhaps you should look into child name server. Make sure you update the new IP address with your domain registrar and wait a little longer for dns propagation.

    Well it's resolved now and was down to a combination of time for DNS records to propagate and the account i was testing from was on the same server as the old account i was moving so it was just trying to send emails internally. What is a child name server? do you mean running a DNS server on my server? I am doing this and putting my DNS server address into my registrars records for my domain works, so do I need to do anything else?

    I'm sorry but I was actually replying to OP and didn't realize you were also asking a question. Maybe you could try opening a new thread because if you can bring up your website means your nameservers are working fine. For your problem, it might be due to 1. non existent recipient 2. incorrect mx record 3. make sure your ptr record match the sending ip otherwise it will bounce 4. the hostname in the header must resolve otherwise will get rejected 5. check for remote or local mail server to avoid 550 error but i'm not an expert, my reply should only be as guidance not a qualified fix.. tq..
