Failed to find user for the virtual_aliases_nostar router
The email system stopped sending out emails for many domains on the server. The exim_mainlog shows this error for each attempt.
R=virtual_aliases_nostar defer (-1): Failed to find user "" from expanded string "${lookup{$domain}lsearch{/etc/userdomains}{$value}}" for the virtual_aliases_nostar router
I have not updated exim the last few days or cpanel. Email is received ok.
I don't see other errors in exim_mainlog, messages or secure. I do see multiple login/logout
messages in the maillog though.
Where else can I look for what's causing this?
Thanks,
RAS

Hello, It's possible the recent Exim security update reset some of your existing configuration files. Try restoring the configuration from a backup using the instructions on the following post to see if that helps: Thank you.0 -
Thank you for the suggestion, I'll check it out today. 0 -
I read over the restore suggestion. However, the last update was long before the trouble occured. There are no config file updates this month. Is it possible that this issue is not exim but DNS? As I search Google for the problem, there are some DNS mentions but none seem to apply to our problem. Still looking for a solution or something to check or test. ras 0 -
Hello, The error message could also indicate a potential missing or corrupted entry in the /etc/userdomains file. Try backing up this file and then rebuilding it to see if that solves the issue: mv /etc/userdomains /etc/userdomains-backup1 /scripts/updateuserdomains
Thank you.0 -
I tried rebuilding userdomains with the script. The new file is identical to the old. Thank you for the help though 0 -
On further examination, it appears that the sending errors are only for one recipient domain. I can send to other domains such as google.com. Our other servers which have the same exim configuration can send to this domain though. 0 -
