Server not booting after cPanel & Kernel upgrade

Hello, I performed a Cpanel & Kernel update to latest version as directed in WHM and did a graceful reboot. The server won't boot or come to login screen. Did hard reset, worked once. I was prompted to reboot again as new Kernel updates were installed. Rebooted and the server won't boot or come online. Please help. Server is offline since Cpanel update.

    Hello, This isn't something you can investigate without access to the server over the command line. You will need to reach out to your hosting provider or data center to see if they can determine why the server isn't booting, or provide you with remote access to view the console so you can look for specific error messages. Thank you.

    Thanks. I sorted it out. It was the Kernal update that crashed the server after reboot. I had to go thru whole installation and data backup to new drive process to get the server up and running.

    Hi, I'm glad to see the issue is now solved. Are you sure it was the kernel update itself, and not the reboot that triggered the issue? Generally, a kernel update on it's own is not going to lead to downtime. Reboots can sometimes lead to the system going through FSCK (FileSystem Check) if filesystem corruption is detected. Thank you.

    Thanks. The issue started when we rebooted the server as Kernal updates require reboot. Now I should better get KernelCare since it doesn't require reboots after updates.

    We have KernelCare installed in all our servers. However, in recent months and weeks we keep seeing notifications in WHM to reboot the server, mostly after a cPanel update. Can we safely ignore such notifications if we are using KernelCare? There was a time we rebooted a server 3 times in a week because each time a notification was appearing in WHM asking us to reboot in order to apply updates. Update: Just checked one of our recently installed servers running CloudLinux 7.4 and cPanel 68.0.29 and having KernelCare. Under 'Home "Server Configuration "Tweak Settings', 'Enable Linux kernel update during nightly maintenance' is already off. However, there's still this message notification in WHM; You must reboot the server to apply software updates.

    @cPanelMichael @Shawn Paul, We got the KernalCare installed. Server is all set and working fine now. This ticket can be closed. :)
