Multiple WHM servers under the same domain
Hi all!
I currently have a WHM server on a VPS whose WHM panel is accessed through (let's say) whm.example.com and cpanel.example.com, respectively.
Now I'm thinking of implementing a second WHM server under the same domain. Let's say whm2.example.com and cpanel2.example.com. For this I will have to configure the DNS server of example.com to point to the new subdomains in the new VPS. The question I have here is how do I configure Apache on the second WHM server to access through whm2 and cpanel2. I understand that this will have to be done through the WHM dashboard because if I do it through SSH the Apache configurations could be lost, right?
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,

Hello, Proxy subdomains are configured on a per-domain basis. Thus, generally the better approach is to have customers access cPanel and WHM using their own domain name (e.g. cpanel.theirdomain.tld, whm.theirdomain.tld). If you'd like to provide them with a separate link to access cPanel/WHM, you could provide them with the "host2.domain.tld/cpanel" and "host2.domain.tld/whm" URLS. Thank you. 0 -
Hi, Michael. Thanks for your prompt response. Reading what you tell me, I see that I was confused, because when registering a new account/domain for a client, this automatically adds a 'cpanel' record and a 'whm' record for the zone that has just been created. So I could access WHM by writing 'whm' with the domain of any client and also each client can access their cPanel by typing cpanel.theirdomain.tld. Kind regards, 0 -

Hello, Yes, that's correct. Thanks!0 -
Hi, Michael. Hello, Yes, that's correct. However, note the "whm" proxy subdomain is only created automatically for accounts with reseller privileges.
Thanks for this observation. When I created a new test account, I do not remember having specifically indicated reseller privileges. Could this privilege be enabled by default? Kind regards,0 -
Hello, Actually, you are correct. To clarify, the "whm" proxy subdomain is automatically created upon account creation. I've modified my previous post to reflect that information. Thank you. 0
