Restoring mail folder issue after server crash

I had an issue with my vps after a crash, which meant reinstalling the os and cpanel. I had back ups that day so there is no issue on that front. I had left exim running once the server was back up (and before i realised there was an issue and had to do a reinstall) so I tar'd the mail directories of each account. upon restoring each account. i've done a mv mail old.mail and untared the mail folder in its place did a repair mail permsions but now each email account is showing zero emails. help

  update fixed by running /scripts/generate_maildirsize --confirm --allaccounts --verbose
