Hello, If you want to forward mail to your users and not retain a copy of it you'd need to create a forwarder without the email account existing on the server, if the email account exists on the server a copy of the forwarded mail will remain in the account. You can set this up at cPanel>>Email>>Forwarders Further information on Email forwarders can be found in our 0 -
Hi Lauren, thank you!!! If I understand you correctly I can forward an email like xyz@domain.com to xyy@maindomain.com by just creating a forwarder on cPanel, I do not need to create the email account xyz@domain.com to make this work? cool, I thought I need an email account first to be able to do anything with it!! THx Dan 0 -
Hi Dan, you're very welcome, I'm happy I could help! Yes, that's correct as long as the forwarder exists the email account does not need to. Thank you! 0 -
HI Lauren, me again...working on deleting all email accounts... but found this Default Email Account The default email account is used to catch mail that is unrouted. The username and password of the default account is the same as your cPanel account login. The default account cannot be deleted and has no quota. and there are many mails in there ..seems until I delete them...how can I delete all and prohibit mail not directed to info@... (forwarder) to simply be ignored, not stored in default eimail? Thx Dan 0 -
Hi Dan! If you have the forwarder created you can set the default account to refuse to accept unrouted mail. Just select "Discard the email while your server processes it by SMTP time with an error message" under Default Address Maintenance "Send all unrouted email for the following domain" Thanks! 0 -
excellent support!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!! Dan 0 -
uuupsss... my THANK YOU seems to have gone missing...so again GREAT SUPPORT, thx!!! Was able to do it... only thing that still surprises me is that I delete ALL mail, still it says mail is 45 MB ... is that a "delay" ? Update: " Email Disk Usage" shows 0 and all em,pty, but in other places it still says 45 MB THx Dan 0 -
Hi Dan, Thanks! We appreciate that and we're glad to be able to help. 0 -
Hi Dan, Do you see anything in trash or if you log out and back in does it remain at 45G? Thanks! 0 -
Hi Lauren, I closeed the cpanel (am logging in from WHM) and reopened it now trash is deleted unter "Email Disk USage" (all email typed deleted to 0) when I look under "Email Accounts" and then check under "Default Email Account" I see ACCOUNTNAME 45 MB (usage) no idea where these 45 MB are? Thx Dan 0 -
Hi Dan, Can you confirm whether or not space is being used by running something like: du -h --max-depth=1 /home/$user/mail/domain.tld/
via SSH?0 -
HI Lauren, sorry, got carried away by the GDPR... where shall i run that code? Thx Dan 0 -
HI Lauren, also combining this thread with another converstion we had: If I just forweard but in "default email" set to none, the forwarding will also not work...am I correct? Thx Dan 0 -
HI Lauren, sorry, got carried away by the GDPR... where shall i run that code?
Hi Dan, no worries! You'd need to log in via SSH to the server and run it, first change domain.tld to your domain name you want to check the disk usage forIf I just forweard but in "default email" set to none, the forwarding will also not work...am I correct?
Can you clarify what you mean here? I'm not sure I understand, I'm sorry. Thanks!0 -

You can forward mail for a non-existent account to an existing account - but it sounds like you might be forwarding mail to the non-existent account from the existing one. - I set up the following forwarder on a test account:
- scary@skeleton.tld is an existing email address
- grim@skeleton.tld does not exist
- All mail to any other accounts is set to fail with "No Such User Here"
[root@server ~]# cat /etc/valiases/skeleton.tld grim@skeleton.tld: scary@skeleton.tld *: ":fail: No Such User Here" [root@server ~]#
I then sent a test from my gmail account and checked the exim logs for the transaction:exigrep 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 /var/log/exim_mainlog 2020-02-19 11:07:09.982 [24070] cwd=/var/spool/exim 3 args: /usr/sbin/exim -Mc 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 2020-02-19 11:07:09.918 [23949] 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 H=mail-wm1-f52.google.com [209.85.128.52]:35548 I=[]:25 Warning: "SpamAssassin as skellytons detected message as NOT spam (1.7)" 2020-02-19 11:07:09.955 [23949] 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 H=mail-wm1-f52.google.com [209.85.128.52]:35548 I=[]:25 Warning: Message has been scanned: no virus or other harmful content was found 2020-02-19 11:07:09.959 [23949] 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 <= me@gmail.com H=mail-wm1-f52.google.com [209.85.128.52]:35548 I=[MYIPADDRESS]:25 P=esmtps L- X=TLS1.2:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:128 CV=no SNI="skeleton.tld" S=4238 M8S=0 RT=0.117s id=CAF7rb1KRwjttLgUQxLNbLwD95pJyGC5s5ef9g8Z1NESxcdF=tQ@mail.gmail.com T="Forwarder test" from for grim@skeleton.tld 2020-02-19 11:07:10.117 [24070] 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 => scary (grim@skeleton.tld) F= SRS= P= R=virtual_user T=dovecot_virtual_delivery S=4467 C="250 2.0.0 7HhJAz5rTV4KXgAA9Z/phw Saved" QT=1.186s DT=0.078s 2020-02-19 11:07:10.117 [24070] 1j4SoW-0006EH-U0 Completed QT=1.187s
I"m not seeing any issues with this functioning.0 - I set up the following forwarder on a test account:

How about willing to Reply as "user@domain.xyz" being this account the one that was Non-existent, and was used only to forward... the service still wil be available to reply as a non-existing account? 0 -
That'd be up to your application's settings. As long as the forward exists to an existing account replies will be forwarded. 0
