Remote sql server backups

Hi @uk01 I believe this should work but the only thing you might be concerned about is the potential for missing data during gaps between when the site backup is taken and when the DB backup is taken. Ultimately though this is something a system administrator familiar with your configuration should be able to answer. If you don't have one you might find one here: Resources | cPanel Forums

Thanks, I am the admin, but there are differences in opinion, so I thought I'd start some research and discussion especially as more and more are talking about remote SQL and cpanel supports it. Your thoughts on missing data are exactly what I was concerned about, so that raises topic for discussion here or elsewhere on how others avoid that as most CDP or replication runs at different intervals. I guess if the sql server used a different backup strategy such as the master - slave, with syncing that would always ensure the remote sql was completely up to date. However, if the cpanel server was replicated every 30mins that would reverse the issue as the cpanel server could be up to 29 minutes older than the mysql data it's connecting to, which may/may not be an issue. More research needed!
