    If kernel packages are not excluded from yum, you can update via yum update. You should get offered kernel packages for updating. If your system is e.g a virtual server you might not be able to update the relevant kernel from inside your CentOS 6 installation.

    Hello, Once you run "yum update" to update the kernel, remember to reboot the system to complete the kernel update. To reboot the server, run the following command: reboot
    Once the server is started again, you can check the kernel version with the following command: uname -r

    Hello @toplisek, Are you attempting to automatically update the kernel (at which point you will need to reboot the server), or are you referring to the ability to automatically install and run a newer kernel without rebooting the server? Thanks!
