Shared Hosting and User Data (Email) Privacy

Good day, With the premise that this question is principally for Shared Hosting Accounts (thus for accounts where one does not have full root access to the hosting server) A client has recently enquired whether it is possible to limit access to the WebMail panel from the Cpanel Administrators page. The question arose because the Administrator account can not only create and modify Email accounts but also access the general Webmail Mail interface. Since the implications of the recent GPDR ruling is troubling many he asked if this access could be limited or restricted in some way because, in theory, anyone with the administrators credentials could read the mail from any user of the domain, which could perhaps eventually compromise the position of the Director and the firm due to the firm's policies for transparency and privacy (firm's data and user data management etc). If I may add a brief follow-up regarding Cpanel access, quite a few have commented to me that they prefer to continue with the X3 Interface Theme. Is this still possible or is this theme being removed permanently and if so, why ? Thank you.

  Regarding webmail access We've previously answered this feature request on Remove 'Access Webmail' from Email Accounts. The 'best answer' there is worth a read. Regarding the x3 interface The x3 interface was officially deprecated and removed in cPanel & WHM v60, which has since fallen out of long-term support. The interface will not be returning. (Read Updated deprecation schedule for X3 | cPanel Blog for more information on that deprecation) You can, however, make the new Paper Lantern interface look like the x3 interface by setting the end-user's theme to the Retro style. There's a handful of ways to do that; How to Set a Default Style with Paper Lantern | cPanel Blog and Guide to cPanel Interface Customization - Apply Styles - Developer Documentation - cPanel Documentation are great resources to review.

  Thank you for your prompt reply. I apologise for missing that first thread. Your point of view appears to be explained by a certain Kenneth Power, (the question of a false sense of security etc. which is true). This was basically the argument I offered to the client in question. Three years have past however and nowadays with the growing fear of spying and data loss etc. people become more and more preoccupied with such matters. It is perhaps understandable therefore that the client, in regard to this problem, is a little uneasy. Thank you for the useful information regarding X3. As you probably are well aware, constant obligatory changes in format, layout, style and indeed method (typical of MS and others) are rarely particularly beneficial to the end user, who generally prefers a stable basis, apon which to learn and improve his ability, together with perhaps the occasional improved performance update or some interesting non-imposed option. I will look with interest at the pages referred to by the inks you included in your response. Thank you again and best wishes.
