Question about including images in a post
I just got a notification that my post was edited by a moderator because I linked to an image. That image/screenshot was removed.
I don't understand why this was done, as this was a vital screenshot to the post and checking posts on all forums here I see the same exact linking and none removed.
Also, the compose panel has an image link function that once you click it, it asks for the URL of the image. If that is not allowed, why does this function exist? And why is this not enforced forum wide?
This was the image:

And this is the moderator's edited post:

Actually, it has been moved to here: By the way, could you please see if you or anybody from cPanel can answer the question there? I'd really appreciate an official response. 0 -
It seems one of the moderators did make a mistake, because guidelines or recommendations are not rules and the "attach image" button in this compose window is enabled for a reason. And as I said, almost every thread has linked images in the same method (not attached) and I never seen even 1 removed this way. Besides, why removing it instead of converting it to an attachment? Why damaging the post? 0 -
Hello @dr_lucas, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on how images are moderated on the cPanel Forums. It's important that our users can easily provide us with information pertinent to an issue, and adding an image to a post is something that users should be able to do without complication. We prefer to keep images stored as attachments because links to third-party image hosting websites will often stop working after a set period of time. This can lead to forum threads with broken images (something we try to avoid because existing threads are often viewed months or years later). I agree that adding an image to a post can be confusing, especially since the image link visible when composing a message specifically asks for a URL. This is an artifact of the forums software we utilize. The good news is that we're planning to update the forums software to a newer version in the near future (tentatively by the end of 2018). Here's an example of what will appear when clicking on the image link in the new version: 53985 As you can see, users will be able to upload the image or drag/drop it directly into the field upon clicking the image icon when composing a message. Note that I've also restored your original image to the post you noted, and we will reply to that thread shortly. Thank you. 0 -
Thank you, Michael, that's much better. And I am looking forward to read your reply on my MariaDB question. Thanks again. <3 0 -
Hello @dr_lucas, I know you posted this thread last year, but I thought you might like to know that our forums software upgrade is complete. Let me know if you have any trouble adding images with the Attach Files button at the bottom left of the response field (note: the screenshot in my last response is no longer applicable). Thank you. 0
