EV SSL Paperwork
Hi Everyone,
I'm new here (this is my first post), but I have yet to find an answer anywhere else I've looked on the web. Hopefully, someone here can shine some light on this.
The bottom-line question is: Why is there 100+ pages worth of contracts and legal documentation to go along with obtaining an EV SSL certificate? Am I the only one that finds this absurd? Some of the terms of the various contracts also seem to give the companies issuing these certificates far more leeway than perhaps necessary for a company that's built for providing security to a website. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like they are trying to shed their liability more so than is necessary. Anyone have input? Thank you!!

Hello @benjamin917, Here's an external link where the documentation requirements for EV certificates are explained: EV process and its documentation - SSL Certificates - Namecheap.com As far as the legal ramifications of those documents, that's generally something you'd need to discuss with a legal representative. You may find the following blog post informative if you're still deciding which SSL certificate is right for your domain: Which SSL is Right For Me? | cPanel Blog Thank you. 0 -
Thanks for your reply. Is the CP and CPS required, as well? Are they federally regulated? Thank you! 0 -

Hello @benjamin917, I don't see a specific requirement for those documents, but this question is better asked to the specific SSL provider you plan to purchase the certificate from. I recommend reaching out to the specific SSL provider to verify the exact requirements. Thank you.0 -
