WHM with Multiple Custom Name Servers
I have following accounts
VPS account with about 20 websites with custom name server ns1.abc.com ns2.abc.com
Reseller account with about 10 websites with custom name server ns1.xyz.com ns2.xyz.com
I want to move all reseller websites to VPS account. However, I don't want to have to ask 10 website owners to change their DNS as they are not very technically advanced and will cause a lot of work.
Is it possible to add ns1.xyz.com ns2.xyz.com to VPS after restoring all the accounts so none of 10 website owners don't have to change their DNS.
At the end, I want to have following custom name server for VPS
ns1.abc.com
ns2.abc.com
ns1.xyz.com
ns2.xyz.com

Hello @K Pork, Do you own the "xyz.com" domain? If so, you'd simply update the name server IP addresses for NS1/NS2 at the domain registrar for "xyz.com" after migrating the accounts to the VPS. Use the same IP addresses that you use for NS1/NS2 on "abc.com". This will allow your reseller customers to continue using the same name servers at their registrar. Additionally, ensure you update the "A" records on "xyz.com" for NS1/NS2 using WHM >> Edit DNS Zone after migrating the accounts. Thank you. 0 -
Thank you so much for quick reply. I do own both domains so I will be able to change ip addresses. Not sure what "Additionally, ensure you update the "A" records on "xyz.com" for NS1/NS2 using WHM >> Edit DNS Zone after migrating the accounts." means but I will have to do some research as I don't want to screw anything up and create downtime. 0 -
Hello @K Pork, The "A" records are the entries for the NS1 and NS2 in the local DNS zone on the cPanel server. This is explained in more detail at: How to Set Up Nameservers in a cPanel Environment - cPanel Knowledge Base - cPanel Documentation Thank you. 0
