Mail Client Manual Settings Information SSL and non-SSL

Hello all, Just curious about "manual configuration mail client" after login to cPanel - Email Accounts ---> Connect Devices ---> Set Up Mail Clients Version cPanel 74.0.6 example: hostname for the cPanel server: cute.cpanelforsold.com let say the domain name for mail client: internetsomething.org SSL Setting box it show: incoming server and outgoing server using hostname cPanel server cute.cpanelforsold.com non-SSL setting box it show: incoming server and outgoing server using mail.internetsomething.org Questions: 1. why at SSL setting using cPanel server hostname rather than using information from the domain name MX ? 2. Whats the impact if internetsomething.org using dedicated IP according to information at SSL and non-SSL manual setting? (when cPanel server IP would be different with the domain IP)

  Hello, For SSL setting mail client need such domain which has SSL installed so it is cute.cpanelforsold.com. For non ssl it can be anything which is pointing to server IP. If internetsomething.org has dedicated IP but no SSL installed then mail server for SSL should be cute.cpanelforsold.com. If internetsomething.org has SSL installed only then you can replace cute.cpanelforsold.com with internetsomething.org.

  As you said that SSL secures dedicated IP and server name according to its information so, this certificate is registered with the server hostname (cute.cpanelforsold.com) not for the domain name. Thus, the impact when you using domain name (mail.internetsomething.org) rather than cPanel server hostname (cute.cpanelforsold.com) is the conflict that will occurs with email software you will using e.g. Outlook or MacOS Mail.app In this case you ask the software to connect securely to (mail.internetsomething.org) but the SSL certificate indicates that its made for (cute.cpanelforsold.com), this will causes a warning message appears to the user that the connection isn't secured.

  The hostname is provided if a SSL certificate is not installed for the individual domain name. I recommend enabling the AutoSSL feature on the server so that a free signed SSL certificate is automatically installed for the the domain name and it's mail subdomain.   You'd still want to install a SSL certificate on the individual domain name so that the domain name is listed instead of the server's hostname in the email client settings. Thank you.
