Bare Metal WHM Restore
I've done some searching through the WHM interface, the documentation, and the forum, but perhaps I'm not using the right language for appropriate results to show up.
I have backups configured for both the cPanel accounts and system configuration. I have played around with restoring and transferring of individual accounts, and transferring the system configuration using the Transfer Tool. What isn't clear is how to restore an entire WHM server including service configuration and cPanel accounts from the files created from the native backup service.
As I understand it, the default /backup location contains all the necessary information. I also understand that you can setup the new WHM server as you would normally, then transfer in the configuration/backup data.
How do you restore an entire WHM server from off-site backup when the original server is no longer functional?

Hi @CanadaGuy While you can't do an actual bare metal restore as you'll need to install cPanel on the new server you can restore site files with the backups and cPanel configurations with the cPconftool. Information on the cPconftool can be found here: The cpconftool Script - Version 74 Documentation - cPanel Documentation If you've been making backups of configuration files you'd just need the restore portion: The cpconftool Script - Version 74 Documentation - cPanel Documentation 0 -

Thanks. I'll dig through that documentation shortly...I think that's what I'm looking for though.0 -
Hi @CanadaGuy Of course, please let us know if you have any concerns or questions once you do look through it. Thanks! 0 -

I scanned the links, but I didn't see something like a beginning to end instruction set, only some "if you want this, do that" sort of thing. Is there something more specific outlining disaster recovery type steps to restore from a native cP backup?0 -
Hi @CanadaGuy There really isn't anything of that nature besides what I provided you. You do bring up a good point that a lot of our documentation assumes you have access to the old server - I think it might be useful to write a tutorial on disaster recovery in the event you have backups but no access to the old server. We'll work on getting that added to the forums tutorials section here In the meantime though, the documentation does give you instructions on how to restore specific system configurations in the restore section. Follow! I would also be interested to read an article on this, in particular the steps to quickly recover from a DC disaster (assuming we have external backups such as Google Drive or S3). 0
