What does Configuration Cluster do?

Hi Guys, I've been reading about the "configuration cluster" option: Configuration Cluster - Version 74 Documentation - cPanel Documentation I set it up and clicked to update in the "update preferences" of the master server. I couldn't notice any differences in the slave afterwards. What does configuration cluster actually do? What can you do with it?
