Emails seem to vanish
Hi, i am hoping for some help on an issue that has been going on for over a month now
I read this in the forum:
A very important thing to remember is that email either gets delivered or it bounces back with an error. There is no in-between and mail doesn't just "disappear into limbo" as many people believe.
Well, for example, this is what is happening, yesterday, a clients customer sent him an email which my client received, then he sent another which he didn't receive, then a third one which he did receive
There is no bounce back and the email is not in the spam folder or anywhere else? I look in Track Delivery and you can see the second email has failed but no further information?
This is just one of several that vanish every week. Has anyone got any ideas on this please
Thank you
Colin

Hi @webjack Firstly I want to add to this statement: A very important thing to remember is that email either gets delivered or it bounces back with an error. There is no in-between and mail doesn't just "disappear into limbo" as many people believe.
As a general rule of thumb no but while not RFC compliant it is possible to "blackhole" unwanted mail or mail sent to users not on the system. This option is availble to be selected within cPanel>>Mail>>Default Address -> Discard or by use of an email filterthis is what is happening, yesterday, a clients customer sent him an email which my client received, then he sent another which he didn't receive, then a third one which he did receive
There is no bounce back and the email is not in the spam folder or anywhere else? I look in Track Delivery and you can see the second email has failed but no further information?
Whats the reason for the failure? Personally, I would check the exim logs for more information. If you have the message ID which is available in Track delivery I would do the following:exigrep /var/log/exim_mainlog
