Force use of external SMTP server?

Is there a way to make WHM and cpanel send out notifications using an external SMTP server instead of sending them out from the local IP? We are attempting to keep the IP of the server hidden behind cloudflare but any emails sent out from WHM come with the IP address in their headers.

  It is possible, I have done it before a few years back. Look into the configuration options for a "smarthost" for exim. You will need to define the smart host, then set the matching rule to * (any destination domain).
