Attempt to invoke directory as script error
Hi - I've come across this error log entry a few times and wanted to understand more about the issue. Searching for the same on the forums has not brought any results.
What would be the reason to see this entry, is this an error - or is it someone trying to cheat? Do I need to consider furter steps to rectify it or to enhance security? I am concerned this can impact the specific site integrity, causing issues for genuine visitors.
the full error log entry is as follows. The IP address appears to be a spammer.
[Thu Dec 27 09:38:09.335295 2018] [cgi:error] [pid 18908] [client 217.12.176.11:31456] AH02812: attempt to invoke directory as script: /home/mysite/public_html/cgi-bin/, referer: http://example.com-
you can ignore its just a bot/person trying to see if the cgi-bin has the wrong permissions and the attempt is being blocked so as in your words it is someone trying to "cheat" 0 -
