Create DNS record for FQDN?
Where do you create the DNS record for the hostname?
For example, my hostname is server1.mydomain.com. mydomain.com isn't used for anything other than the ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. The ns1 and ns1 point to the server IP in the domain registrar glue records. The name servers for mydomain.com are set to ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com.
There is no account in WHM for mydomain.com where I would usually created additional dns records for the FQDN. I do see DNS records for ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com when I click edit dns records in WHM.
Do I need to create an account for mydomain.com and then add server1.mydomain.com ad an A record?

Normally what I do is to actually create an account for mydomain.com and then add the appropriate subdomains to the master zone file. If you do not want to do that for some reason then you can just go to add DNS zone in whm and create a zone specifically for the hostname. 0 -
Hello @jonh, By default, if a DNS zone for the parent domain does not exist, then a separate DNS zone for the hostname itself is created when using the "Add an A entry for your hostname" button when using WHM >> Change Hostname. A separate DNS zone for the hostname is suitable and will work as intended for local DNS resolution when the parent domain name is not added to the server. That said, you'll still want to manually add the "A" record for the server's hostname on the server that manages the DNS for the parent domain name. Thank you. 0
