Save email space, Government account retention
What would be the best way to save on email space, is there a way?
I have a government account on the server and staff email retention is essential. So they do not delete emails other than spam ones. I have a few accounts that are getting up there in space such as 4gb each.
Is there suggestions to how I can maintain the emails, but archive them, or do something so they do not take up as much space?
I know at one point for one of the accounts I had them imap in and then move the emails to local machine and then back that up but most of theses guys are inept at doing that.

Hello @PDW, One option to consider enabling is "Compress Messages" in WHM >> Mail Server Configuration. This option is designed to reduce the disk space occupied by emails stored on the system. Note that it doesn't compress existing emails, but a workaround for that is available on the top comment at the following feature request: Ability to compress existing email Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. 0 -

How does this affect deliverability / performance / etc?
Hello @SoftDux, You may see an increase in CPU usage, but that will vary depending on how active your email server is. Most of the reports I've seen on the Dovecot mailing list indicate the CPU usage increase is unnoticeable. Thank you.0 -

Can it be reversed, if I see CPU usage spiking to high after compressing mail?0 -

Yes, simply browse to WHM >> Mailserver Configuration and disable Compress Messages. Thank you.0
