[CPANEL-26207] AutoSSL fails with incorrect is not registered domain error
LetEncrypt AutoSSL for a third level domain name has failed to renew for several days. Previously it has worked fine for this domain. The error reported is:
"" is not a registered domain name."
I think this is related to the fact that the FQDN is a third level domain name like:
first.last.name
Where last.name is a reserved domain used only for third level sub-domain delegation, and it is not under our control.
I have verified that it is a valid registered domain name; WHOIS reports it is not expired and my cPanel servers are authoritative for DNS. DNS is resolving the names and providing correct answers.
There is no CDN in front of the server.
There is no IPv6 on the server.
What is my next step to get AutoSSL working again for this domain? Thanks.

Yes, it does indeed sound like that case, was hoping to get another example in our ticket system of this issue as well as confirmation. For anyone that is unaware CPANEL-26207 - Resolver to handle 2nd level domains on the public suffix list This issue is resolved in v80 of cPanel and is scheduled to be backported to v78 though that portion is not complete yet. Hi @jsw4 Thanks for providing that, it looks like this ticket is resolved with the same conclusion as is listed in this thread. We'll update here when v80 is moved to RELEASE Thanks! 0 -

I checked into this ticket but your issue appears to be unrelated to the case here, it appears that you have UDP port 53 filtered and this needs to be resolved in order to allow the autoSSL check to properly complete.0 -

Lauren, Is there an update on ETA for resolution of this issue? I've got a few sites affected now. -JSW0 -
Hi @jsw4 Its resolved in v80 of cPanel but that version is still in edge and not recommended for production. In the case it notes it was backported to v78.0.21 yesterday but it's not present in the changelog so I'm waiting on confirmation in the case to say for sure that it's resolved in a RELEASE version of cPanel. 0 -

Issue is resolved for me in v78.0.23.0 -
We shipped 78.0.23 last week and this should have fixed the issue for everyone, @jsw4 thanks for letting us know. Please let us know if anyone continues to experience issues with this now that the issue should be resolved. 0
