PHP extensions issue for WordPress
Hi all,
I have seen different threads regarding this problem, but I have not been able to fix it in my case.
The hosting company is - Removed - and I do not have root access.
The cpanel version is 76.0.20
The current PHP version is native 5.4. I would like to update the WordPress, but I get this message from the WP interface "You cannot update because WordPress 5.2.1 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45."
My understanding is I can use the "Select PHP version" from the cPanel. When I try to use any version from the dropdown, Wordpress displays "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress". I would like to install 7.0
I have read some MySQL functions were deprecated after 5.4
The PHP info() has got mysql, mysqli and mysqlnd for native 5.4, but when I try 7.0 the phpinfo() has not got the MySQL despite being ticked in the extensions:
I do not seem to have root access, I have been trying different PHP versions, all of them apart of the native version, give the error on WordPress. I cannot upgrade WordPress because of the dependency on PHP version +5.6
Can you help me in finding a solution? I have run out of ideas. Thanks a lot

Hello @dgg, This is an issue you should report to your web hosting provider. The first issue they should address is the use of cPanel & WHM version 76. This version is end-of-life and thus the server should be updated to at least cPanel & WHM version 78. Additionally, your provider should be able to ensure the required PHP extensions are working properly through the CloudLinux PHP Selector feature installed on the system. Thank you. 0 -
