Update the bundled PHP GD version?
I have Easyapache 4 on my VPS, and it appears that all the PHP versions (7.0, 7.1 & 7.2) I am using have the same version of GD library bundled - 2.1.0.
It would appear the latest GD available from their github repository is 2.2.5.
Is it feasible to update my bundled version to this latest version? (and if so, how!)
I ask because I'm getting some poor results when resizing images via Drupal Imagecache, especially with images with large white areas where I'm seeing a very minute colour shift which renders them no longer white. I believe this artifacting bug has been addressed with newer GD versions.

This wouldn't be something that is supported - you could use a different version of gd but you'd have to roll your own rpms for it and while it may be possible it could potentially be a really complicated process - How to Build and Install Custom RPMs - cPanel Knowledge Base - cPanel Documentation 0 -

Would this be in scope in the near future? The current GD supplied by EA4 doesn't appear to support the WebP image format. 0 -
Not that I'm aware of, I don't see any current cases in relation to this. I'd suggest opening a feature request in this instance to support an updated version. 0
