Reducing the stored size of a mailing list

I'm trying to reduce space usage for my site. I have a current mailing list which cpanel says is using over 1 Gb of space. What is the best way to reduce the size? I've looked at the archive, but that doesn't explain the amount of disk space it's using. The list itself has been going for 10 years, and has under 10 members at any one time.

  If I add up all the monthly archives the Gzipped total is around 7 MB.
