cPanel development at the poor level
I was wondering to create that topic but i can't hold it anymore.
I would like to share here only my opinion, if someone has a different look into this sutiation than mine, I would not want to offend this person in any way.
Coming back to the topic.
At the beginning I would like to congratulate cPanel team for the panel they made, however its functionality and support for better technologies is at a very but very low level, just as far as introducing changes that are NECESSARY to run a good business, specially for the amount of money we have to pay MONTHLY.
For example MySQL.
I have no idea, why cPanel is still on mysql 5.6/5.7 and why MySQL 8 is not available yet.
As well updates and newer version release, god you have to wait AGES for them...
I wanted to migrate from MariaDB to Percona 8, not percona 5.6/5.7 Percona 8, i hired even Technical Team to do that task.
As a hosting company our costumers asked many questions about Percona but we can't provide it to them even if we want to.
Unfortunately, but cPanel does not support MySQL 8 and Percona 8 and the migration failed, we tried 3 times.
By digging all topics about how many people have already asked for such functionalities and a newer version, in my opinion the amount of time to implement something like that is a joke to me, the more that discourages our company from this approach to the future use of cPanel.
I'm still looking for more experienced developer of MySQL to do that migration for me but cPanel is always the main problem of that implementation.
I don't get why you are stuck in place so much behind.
I know you have to check that before implementing something like this it must pass several tests and patches, however it takes too long, and I as a regular customer cannot use Percona 8 because cPanel blocks this possibility, and not to mention that Percona is one of the better MySQL servers that should also be supported by cPanel.
CloudLinux supports Percona 5.6, which is still not an MySQL 8.
I won't mention nginx implementation that is much better that LiteSpeed, or PHP updates ETC.
I would like some explanations from the developers how it all goes.
And please don't tell me to make an feature request on your site because they are considered for years. What, as I said at such a price and for these times such changes should be implemented much faster

I agree with some of this. Since doubling the cost of the product for most users when licensing changed, we should be getting more for that expense. IMO That being said, I personally am very happy with the lengths cPanel goes to making sure that the software options they provide work exactly as expected and reliably. Constant version upgrades of the many pieces that make cPanel will always take time to accomplish this stability. You will not find ANY other similar product out there that is this robust AND stable. In fact, I would go as far to say that anyone trying to use opensource for a production 100% reliable system will undertake a considerable time and cost to make that happen. Whether your cPanel or Joe the plumber, this will always be the trade-off for reliability with opensource. It has always been best, in my opinion to use an external dedicated SQL server if you need features/power way beyond cPanel's implementation. This will also free you from many gotcha's from trying to use cPanel services in a way they aren't really designed to be used. cPanel, if you don't already offer this, this would also be a great opportunity to have classes/web guides to find features and fully utilize what is already available. The cPanel forums only get you so far, and no one knows cPanel's capabilities like you do. 0 -

We have made an initial announcement for CentOS 8, and you will see an announcement for MySQL 8 soon. Sir, but i saw your requests list and some of them are holded for 2-3 even 4 years. If you are charging more than 45 dollars per month for license, those things should not take more than 6 months, and specially that if you are behind with the BASICS like: mysql, PHP etc. Then security of our applications and costumers are limited, and that should never happen. Still i don't know when you will Support Percona 8 but i guess untill that time i will have to resign with cPanel and our company will order our own Panel in that case. It's 7th of march and still there is no php 7.4, for that price as i said, this is a joke. Things like mysql and PHP are standards that should have the highest priority. Customers require and as cPanel cannot do a proper update at a good price in a timely manner, customers are dissatisfied with the time after which such things are introduced. 0 -

I am really going to go hard that it takes time and work to do these things (but you are right about MySQL, but even there, I am not sure if there was a easy way to implement MySQL 8.0, as the database upgrade is serious stuff, and should not be considered a joke, you can lose every data if you don't upgrade MySQL properly, and MySQL officially doesn't provide an easy way to upgrade, e.g. like using config.nice in apache and php), understand please! Of course it is not easy, however look at cPanel prices. For this price it should be done a few months ago, these are standard things that should have the highest priority. If cPanel is used as a reseller, users do not have the latest standards. For me it is funny because PHP and MYSQL should be done a long time ago, and released into the world, and here as you can see something is wrong. For me, they should lower prices back. Until they hire the programmers who will be able to do what they should, because I understand that it is not easy, but I am very sorry my customers expect PHP 7.4, they have been asking for months and cPanel does nothing about it. Same with MYSQL 8.0, standard. Still not there.0 -

I agree. They raised 300-400 percent of their license fees, what did we get in return? Cpanel development processes have slowed down incredibly, and support processes are also problematic. Oakley robbery (capital) is doing evil to cpanel and its customers. Leave cpanel alone, Oakley Capital! You are a wretched investor. 0 -
I disagree that development has slowed down. I think there has been a lot more focus on development internally for things that may not be immediately visible. I know there are some issues with some key items CentOS 8 and MySQL 8 being among them, but I can't say it enough, we're expanding in all areas, we're adding new development teams which should lighten the workload for other teams to get items like the ones being discussed here in the product quicker. @vacancy what are the problematic support issues you're noting? We've vastly expanded our Technical Support department, including the implementation of an entirely new ticket system which should make for a much more streamlined experience when opening a ticket. 0 -

So waiting that long since the feature request of MySQL 8.0 and PHP 7.4 is normall for buisness companies? If you say YES then i think i will have to look forward to change cPanel in the next year, for something more valuable. As i said those things are priority that costumers needs, and i have tied hands as i depend on you... Can you please update us with upgrades like MariaDB to latest versions (STABLE LATEST VERSIONS) PHP MySQL etc. If it's going to be more than 6 months or 1 year, after stable release, then what's the point if you can't keep up with the standards of the internet. If this is really about pricing changes, I am sorry but we'll not get into another debate about this here and I won't allow our community support forums to turn into a huge argument on the changes to the Account-based pricing model. Heh, well i don't need to create another topic about price changes, as there was more than 500 unhappy costumers about it, and they left cpanel because of that. HOWEVER, still no php 7.4, when all other panel (EVEN THOSE THAT ARE FREE OF CHARGE) implemented php 7.4. Still waiting, and nothing is happening.What updates are you referring to when you say most? Yeah, major items, but most important... I do not want to argue because we both know that it does not make sense, but I will politely write that you could hurry because we lose customers because of YOU. You don't have to answer that, because I probably won't know anything new :)0 -
I realize that PHP 7.4 is an issue we all do and I wish I could hand it to you, truly I do. I know that I checked the story for it yesterday and it's being wrapped up. I know the team responsible for it is aware of everyone's concerns here as is our management but there's literally nothing I can do to make this go faster. If there are other features beyond those three items that aren't being updated I'd love to know what they are and I can look into them for you, which was the point of my asking initially. 0 -
