When you say emails are missing, where are they missing from? Are they missing from outlook or from the server? Have you tried webmail to see if the messages are there? (This would rule out outlook sync issues). Have you looked via the command line at the mail directory to see if emails are there?

To further @rackaid's questions, if you had power outages and the server was affected by this, you may have inadvertently caused issues with dovecot - in order to direct you to the right path though, the questions he asked need to be answered first. Furthermore, the following may be useful to get an idea of the type of information that is helpful when opening a forums thread:

hello, The emails were missing from the server...we"re talking 1000s of emails....and this has happened twice now. IT is a VPS server. I was just thinking that maybe our local power outages might have caused this if Outlook was suddenly prevented from receiving via send/receive process. These email accounts are connected to several devices - Outlook - Iphone - and Zoho CRM network. Would really appreciate your advice. Thanks

Sounds like your customers have setup their emails as pop somewhere and set it to remove emails from server after xx days.

Thanks for this heads up.....It"s strange, the setting "remove after 14 days was selected" but I have never selected this option - I wonder if this is selected by default on the latest Outlook update? Because we have not had this problem before now, and these computers were set up 4 years ago.
