New name servers
Hi guys,
Need some advice on what would be the best way to move to a new server (changing ns1.server1.com to ns2.server2.com). Keep in mind that I don't have access to some of the domain names in order to change the name servers to the new server (changing company names).
Should I first:
- Transfer existing sites (transfer tool) to SERVER 2.
- Ensure all is working fine for each account. Ensure old NS records are in place with new IP.
- Update old NS records with registrar to the new SERVER 2.
- Update any domains that I do have access to, to the new NS within registrar.

How many domains are you migrating? If not too many, you may want to do this in stages. You may want to just migrate to your new server keeping your original nameserver names. This way you only have to update the ns1.server1.com nameserver IPs (at the registrar and their A records). This way your migration is done. You can then move to your new sever name and update the NS records for the domains you can access. 0 -
I believe keeping Original NS names was part of the process noted: Ensure all is working fine for each account. Ensure old NS records are in place with new IP.
But the only reason to change them to new NS would be if you needed different NS names, if you don't - that can stop there as @rackaid noted.0
