Website won’t load and lmtp is down

Hi, Our staging site won"t load and when I check Service Status it says lmtp is down. We don"t use or require email on the server, but have had problems with spam email being sent from it. We"ve deleted the mail queue, checked incoming mail (the mail folders on the server are all empty), lmtp is now operational but the website still won"t load. Any pointers would be greatfully received.

  You have to be more specific about "won't load". Are you getting an error message / 500 error etc.? Have you looked at the error logs in the site as well as the error logs in /var/log/apache2? Is the web site PHP or CGI?

  Also, lmtp being down shouldn't have any affect on the site, so I'd definitely second @ffeingol's request for more information. Some suggestions on what is helpful can be found here:
