Restoring server but sql version may be important
Our server is fried and the data center can't recover it. We are getting ready to restore from backups but have a potential problem that I don't know how to address. The Mysql version might be important. We had not upgraded the old server's SQL to mariadb due to some very old scripts (15+ years old) and we feared that it would not work on mariadb, etc. The server we are going to restore to has cpanel already installed so most likely it has a newer version of SQL/MariaDB. Is there any way to roll back to the version of sql that came right before mariadb without totally having to reinstall cpanel, etc.?

You did not specify your versions of MySQL, but if you need MySQL 5.5/5.6, you need to make adjustments before you install cPanel. If you host offers a recover console, I would just have them install your OS and then you handle the cPanel install. See: Installation Guide - Customize Your Installation - Version 70 Documentation - cPanel Documentation For more details on customizing the install. I just had to do this not long ago. 0 -
Hi You can install the OS and then you install the cPanel after that you can remove the mysql through yum remove command then install manually mysql version you want. Regards 0 -
I absolutely would follow the recommendation provided by @rackaid @HostNoc the method you're suggesting would not be the best practice nor would it be supported. [QUOTE]You can configure the version of MySQL" or MariaDB" to use in the /root/cpanel_profile/cpanel.config file"s mysql-version key before you install cPanel & WHM. However, we do not support the configuration of existing installations of cPanel & WHM.
The newer documentation on customizing your installation would be here: Customize Your Installation | cPanel & WHM Documentation Keep in mind that v86 does not support MySQL prior to 5.7 (per: cPanel Deprecation Plan | cPanel & WHM Documentation) so if you need MySQL 5.5 you must use the LTS tier.0 -
@cPanelLauren does v86 support MariaDB 10.1? 0 -
