If it is not wrong information, you cannot upgrade from mariadb to mysql 8. Mysql can be upgraded from 5.7 to 8. According to some tests, mysql 8 seems to have better performance than mariadb, but this may differ depending on database structures and query types.

@vacancy Thank you for your response... Seems promising your link of benchmarks - I will stay with 5.7 now and Ill wait till version 88 to try Mysql 8 and see the difference hopefully at that point we can upgrade to MariaDB as well from Mysql 8 or I can always create a dummy test vps to see how thing workout before doing anything stupid on my server :) keep it safe

Because MariaDB is considered and upgrade from MySQL it is not available to update to MySQL 8 from MariaDB 10.3 I have an edge server running Current Version MariaDB 10.3.22-MariaDB MySQL 8 is not an available option when running MariaDB.

is it possible to upgrade from mariadb 10.3 to mysql 8? i've been having a very difficult time finding any 'Official cPanel: MySQL 8 Upgrade from MariaDB 10.3' info. i've found random articles throughout the web, but would preferably like to keep it aligned with cPanel releases.

It is not possible to switch from mariadb versions to mysql versions. However, you can make a custom switch by removing mariadb and installing mysql rpm's. Cpanel does not recommend this transition.
