Release Tier Select the release tier to use for updating cPanel & WHM. You can"t downgrade or select tiers that are older than the currently-installed version.
    Tier Currently Description
LTS 86.0.21 A well-tested and proven version that cPanel, L.L.C. supports for one full year.
STABLE 86.0.21 A version that is feature-complete, fully tested, and is in widespread use.
RELEASE Recommended 88.0.9 A version that is feature-complete and well tested.
CURRENT 88.0.9 A "release candidate" version that is tested but may not be feature-complete.
EDGE 88.0.9 A development version for testing only and not for production servers.
Personally I do not consider something labeled as an Edge release to be usable for production. Even the CP text above states the same. Based upon this thread and the number of problems I"m having with v88 personally, v88 is not usable in a production environment. Q1: Is there any other way than completely rebuilding a server to get it back to an actual production level release? Q2: What steps need to be taken, during the rebuild, to ensure STABLE and only STABLE are ever used on the server?

We also don't consider it usable for production. It sounds as though there's some confusion. We had that version in EDGE for sometime before publishing it to CURRENT and then RELEASE. There isn't an edge version of the product right now since we just send v88 to RELEASE and as such it's listed in all tiers until a new version moves into the EDGE slot.

You are currently on a production version of the product if you are using v88. If you're talking about downgrading to LTS or Stable

Whatever tier you select in update preferences is the tier that will be used on your server, so if you want stable on the server you'll need to select it when v88.0.9 moves out of RELEASE into stable - for LTS (Long Term Stable) you won't be able to select until v86 is moved out of LTS next year. As long as you don't modify these tiers there is no way you'll be moved to a tier other than your selection and root-level privileges are required for this change. As I mentioned before there seems to be some confusion as to how those tiers work right now and I want to confirm you are on the recommended RELEASE version which did go through EDGE and CURRENT tiers before being in RELEASE and was deemed suitable for release, there just isn't a following RELEASE or EDGE version to take its place in those tiers now. This is a cycle that occurs every time a version is moved to RELEASE until a new EDGE version is added - that will be v89 (all edge versions are odd numbers) then v90 when it leaves EDGE.
