Stopping attachments getting saved in mailman
I have 3 private email lists that my family uses for years, I want them to behave exactly like an email address except it goes to 2 email addresses instead of one.
I got my isp to delete 50MB of space held my the attachments in October 2019 and I set the below options to stop attachments getting saved and taking up space:
- Nondigest option -> Scrub Nondigest -> No
- Content Filtering - > Remove message attachments that don't have a matching content type.
- Added - text/html - application/pdf

That's actually not a lot of space if there are a lot of messages. Are archives being saved/created? What might be best is to have your provider give you a breakdown of what data is being stored and consuming disk space. Also, keep in mind that content filtering removes the attachments when they are received by the mailserver not when they are stored so you won't ever receive any attachments that are text/html (these will be converted to text/plain0 or application/pdf mime types. 0 -
I should have been clearer. I have 400MB for my account and have 350MB used as standard so 20MB is very significant for me. My intention is to get all attachments and have nothing whatsoever saved - no archives are being saved. Most times I do get the attachments but on one list sometimes they are blocked - I have not spotted the config difference yet. Other than requesting the attachment directory to be cleared out my ISP is not relevant here as I manage my own space. I can see on the disk usage app where space is being taken, though it can be difficult to pinpoint within mailing lists where exactly space is taken. Last year on the mailman forum the told me the issue was attachments being saved. Unfortunately, the configuration is so complex for having pass through mail imho. Does anyone have a detailed list of all the config needed to have all mail pass through on a list with no attachements saved ever? 0 -
Has anyone on this forum configured a mailing list not to archive or save attachments or know of a resource that details how exactly to do that? 0 -
Hi broadtc, I don't know the answer to your question, sorry, and I just signed up to this cPanel forum today. Have you resolved this yet? If so, how? If not, I suggest you check the archives of the Mailman 2.1 mailing list. Here I've searched that list for "attachments": Or, failing that, join that same list here: 0
