Major providers removed from the Common Mail Providers list
Greetings, all.
This morning, I received notification that a number of major players were removed from the Common Mail Providers greylisting. Providers removed were:
- Outlook
- Symantec Messagelabs
- Microsoft Exchange Online Protection
- Hotmail
-
Thats right, but they should have emailed customers before taking such decision.. waiting for some update from Cpanel on this one.
We've also received the same email message however I'm afraid I understand what you and timesurfer are saying ?? Is this more to do with Greylisting ??0 -

agreed - however, we don't yet know if it's a bug or a feature =)0 -
Hello, everyone! So, if you still see those on Greylist, just do a refresh to that list.I have done it, all the named ones( outlook..etc) are now gone from that list. My problem is that this change is done without few days warning so emails could be rejected or lost. 0 -

I'm starting a case on it to find out because I guess that's what is required to learn why such a major change was made. This is beyond ridiculous. 0 -

Symptoms You may receive notifications that common mail providers are no longer in the Common Mail Providers list. Description Notification emails are being sent regarding common mail providers no longer existing in the Common Mail Providers greylist, although they remain present, or greylisting is disabled entirely. Similar emails may look like the following: "The mail provider Microsoft Exchange Online Protection is no longer on the Common Mail Providers list." You will also find logs of these types of notifications on the server: [ root@172.16.1.16 [] ~]# ls /var/cpanel/user_notifications/root/history/*Greylist* /var/cpanel/user_notifications/root/history/1596779790_Greylist_ ? The mail provider "Hotmail" is no longer on the Common Mail Providers list..eml /var/cpanel/user_notifications/root/history/1596779790_Greylist_ ? The mail provider "Microsoft Exchange Online Protection" is no longer on the Common Mail Providers list..eml /var/cpanel/user_notifications/root/history/1596779790_Greylist_ ? The mail provider "Outlook" is no longer on the Common Mail Providers list..eml /var/cpanel/user_notifications/root/history/1596779790_Greylist_ ? The mail provider "Symantec Messagelabs" is no longer on the Common Mail Providers list..eml This does, however, appear to be a one-time false-positive that occurs after an update is run by /scripts/upcp. There is an open internal case, CPANEL-33756, regarding this, which will be actively reviewed by the developers. 0 -
Hey everyone, As some of you have posted already, the notifications are a false positive. Nothing has actually changed on the server side, but you're just receiving a notification that something has. We've created Mail Providers are no longer in the Common Mail Providers list Notifications to explain this behavior and I see some of you have referenced this already, but let me know if you have any other questions. 0 -

I received these mail warnings even if the greylisting was disabled on my server. Anyway, I'm happy to read these are warnings that I can ignore. 0 -
If that is true, it makes perfect sense. And I am 100% backing cPanel's attitude. I have several customers that rely on cPanel's email, and despite all the email configurations are 100% correct (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, the domains are not blacklisted, they are not sending newsletters, etc), despite all that, all their emails always end up on these providers Spam folders no matter what. A colleague o mine that works in another company told me last week that he lost a customer just because he couldn't prevent their emails going to Spam.
I think this has nothing to do with cPanel. Major email service providers (Google, Microsoft...) tend to blacklist IPs from web hosting companies (they blacklist full ranges of IPs). Web hosting companies generate a good deal of SPAM sent over the internet, since website are usually hacked to make them relay spam anonymously. So these days it is very complicated to host email accounts on a web server, and people have no choice but to subscribe to gSuite, Microsoft 365. So yes, we will continue to loose customers just because of that.0 -

No, this doesn't rise the the level of needing to be debated by legions of cPanel users. They gave you the IPs associated with the delisted providers, so just add them back in per their instruction. cPanel gives you tons of control already for accepting mail. Sending, as has already been stated, is an IP reputation issue, so you have to take that up with your provider. Unless if you stay with the same provider for a very long time, you're likely to get poor reputation IPs and will have to do the work of delisting where ever possible. It's a pain in the you know what, but it is what it is.0 -
To elaborate on what @cPRex already mentioned. This is a result of a change that was made actually but not that these providers were removed. They were reorganized. We updated their information and restructured the list i.e., Outlook and Microsoft were two separate entries where they were changed to Outlook/Microsoft - there isn't an issue with function though the actual issue here is that the notification are sent at all, even when greylisting is disabled. This is being taken care of though through another case. There isn't a case ID for this yet but I'll update here when there is. 0 -
cPanelLauren - thank you for the info update :) 0 -
It was so late for an April's Fool Day from cPanel. It scared a lot of people the email received. 0 -
We have received same notifications and we are so happy about it! I was about time someone did to Microsoft what they did to a lot of users by putting their emails in the Spam folder or even worse, blocking them. We are not going to add those services to the trusted list. F---- them! 0
