Proxying of Cloudflare DNS records for cPanel
Hi community,
In my Cloudflare account I have quite a few DNS records related to cPanel and WHM (see attached image).
Cloudflare suggests setting all these records to "Proxied" instead of "DNS only" but I'm afraid that some functionality will be lost if I do so. Is it safe for me to change the proxy status to "Proxied" for the records and which records are safe to change the status of?
For clarity: I access cpanel and whm through the server IP address (via my webhost Liquidweb) and not through the subdomains. I access my FTP server through a FTP client (FileZilla) and not through the web browser. I have a mail account on the domain but all emails are being redirected to Gmail, and I do not acces the email through the mail subdomain.
Thank you!
All the best,
Grubbe

You should be good then. CloudFlare protected only supports HTTP/HTTPS traffic so everything else won't work like FTP through a protected domain name but given your current situation this should be ok. 0 -
Thank you! Sorry for asking stupid questions, but to clarify: What you're saying is that I can safely change all records to "Proxied", even the "mail" record? 0 -
Yes though I would leave mail dns only. 0 -
I second @andrew.n's suggestion in this as well. Let us know if you run into any issues with it. 0 -
Thank you both of you. Highly appreciated! After having tested it myself I can now confirm that it is possible to set all Cloudflare DNS A records related to cPanel (expect the "mail" subdomain) to "Proxied" with no issues. At least in my case. 0 -
Good to know, thanks for the update! 0
