Should cPanel users be able to restore backup from remote AWS S3?
Hi cPanel Team,
I went to WHM > Backup Configuration > Additional Destination and setup a verified AWS S3 bucket so now all the backups are being saved and things look great.
Did I misconfigure something somewhere though? How come when I log into any cPanel account, they are not able to "restore" or "download" the backups from AWS S3? I made sure the Backup User Selection is enabled and toggled on. I see backup and backup wizard but there is no "Account Backups" available for download.

Hi, I don't this this is possible. It has to be transferred from S3 to your server and then restored. See You can, however, sync directories on the server with S3 using s3sync. 0 -
Hey there! cPanel users don't have access to the backups created by the root user, so that is not something we would expect to work. That interface allows them to create their own backups using that tool, but it has no connection to the WHM backup system. 0 -
Thanks for the added clarity. 0 -
For this Use Jetbackup Plugin for WHM/cPanel. It allows Cron Backups as well as Access to backup/restores/download/snapshots to End-User. It also has a Built-In role Management from which you can manipulate which user can be allowed for download or if all users allowed. 0 -
Direct Restorations from AWS s3 is not possible. you need to download/transfer the backup file to server and then try to restore it. 0
