Can we hide the Solutions menu?

We run all our servers on LTS, so we have pleanty of time to look at the new features, develop support procedures etc. Because of what we were seeing with these new themes, we spun up a development system and set it to Current, so we could see for ourselves. After that I opened a ticket with cPanel about our options with the new theme (specifically disabling the Solutions menu). Our options were:
    • Create a custom theme based off Jupiter
    • Use Paper Lantern (because we stick with LTS)
Creating a custom theme is not really an option for us. Shared/reseller hosting is a commodity and small portion of our business. We simply can't spend the time and energy to develop and maintain a custom theme. Turning off the theme chooser seemed like a good idea (we run LTS so we're good with Paper Lantern for 1 more year) but cPanel decided to put a huge deprecated message on the page. That wouldn't cause a single support ticket ;-) In "our" opinion, the entire Solutions section is a joke. First and foremost, why would any company want to send their customers off their web site and onto another website. Even if it's the software vendor (cPanel) they don't use the same messaging / language (phrasing etc., not English vs. Spanish vs. another language) that we do. Secondly, at least half of the items on the Solutions menu don't apply to us. Like most hosts (as others have said) we turn off a lot of features that our customers don't want / need to keep the interface clean. Those items then don't properly remove themselves from the Solutions section. For the easiest example, click on "How do I update PHP". One would think that would link to a page about MultiPHP Manager (which we don't use because we use CloudLinux) so people could change their PHP version. What it actually links to is a page about EasyApache, and updating system software. These are things that are only available in WHM with root access. Why, why, why would you link to that in cPanel? The bottom section is almost as funny
    • Video Tutorials - Most are not cPanel. The ones that are, are very old and use Paper Lantern
    • Forums - Do you really want our customers posting in the forum?
    • cPanel University - Really, you think that's for cPanel users?
Sorry for my long rant. I usually just come to the forum to help people and not complain about things. For most things we don't like about cPanel we can simply disable it and then the issue goes away. With these new themes, we're really stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Hi, we have create a feature request for an option to disable the solution page in cPanel:

Solutions menu item should just be a default, with it editable allowing us to link up our own Solutions page. Better yet turn it into a framework so we can add our own pages to that menu. Quick Fixes for instance so they don't have to dig, a number of other possibilities. Not sure why but couldn't follow the above features topic, so had to post it here.

There's going to be an option to hide solutions coming in the very near future. I don't have a build number to go with it yet. @kwsim - the icons are back in 102.

NEWS I raised a query with CPanel as to Paper Lantern's deprecation and they stated in reply: [QUOTE]We understand your concern regarding this matter. The release of version 102 to the RELEASE tier has been delayed so that we may implement suggestions and recommendations to the Jupiter theme. As such, the deprecation of Paper Lantern has been delayed. However, please note that Paper Lantern will still be removed in version 104.
    [QUOTE]
(my emphesis) So looks like I will have to disable CPanel updates after 102 until they fix Jupiter icons/solutions et al theme to be appropriate. Or move over to another management software...

I'm pretty sure the V102 will be the LTS version for 2022, so you don't have to disable updates, just switch to LTS. Having said that, they still "could" leave the big deprecation message, which is not very "user friendly".

I like how you avoided the bulk of the concerns raised in this thread. Would it be possible to get any feedback as to why CPanel are deprecating Paper Lantern? As others have said; "why fix what isn't broken"

@martin MHC - I've asked to get more specifics on the "why" and I'll share them as soon as I can.

WHM 102 attempts to address the issue of the awful Jupiter theme by adding icons. But seriously cPanel, you could have done better having your icons designed by someone on Fiverr! All icons are black. WTF???? alt="1644356146780.png"]https://forums.cpanel.net/attachments/1644356146780-png.75545/
So far all you have done is make Jupiter less horrible than it was. It is still a dis-respectful offering to customers who have seen massive price increases and should be listened to...or, and here is a novel idea...consulted. Until you can get it to at least be acceptable, DO NOT DEPRECATE PAPER LANTERN. And WTF is this notification????? TURN IT OFF! alt="1644356305589.png"]https://forums.cpanel.net/attachments/1644356305589-png.75549/

I have found you can turn off the deprecation notification by placing the empty file /var/cpanel/hide_pl_notice
    on the server.

Take a look at opensense for a left hand side panel navigation done right. It looks fab and is well designed.

Jupiter has a couple of goals (no particular order to these):
    • Present a user experience that enables learners and new users to begin their journeys in hosting, invest in their servers and accounts, and become expert users quickly.
    • Present a user experience that is visually modern, approachable, and familiar.
    • Present a user experience that is consistent between the three major interfaces of cPanel & WHM (ports :2083, :2087 and :2096) so that, when users graduate up from one interface to another, they can immediately apply what they've already learned.

Thanks. That's nice to know. I have some comments and questions here:
    • In which way does Paper Lantern not enable learners and new users to begin and become expert users quickly?
    • Have you identified specific problems? I haven't. I have zero UX/UI complaints from my few thousand users about Paper Lantern except where there are missing translations.
    • In which specific ways is Paper Lantern not "visually modern, approachable, and familiar"? I could understand this about "Classic", but not Paper Lantern.
    • In which ways is Jupiter "approachable and familiar"? It seems to be the opposite.
    • Have you identified a specific disconnect between Webmail and cPanel interfaces that confuses users? I can't see any.
    • Why do you presume that final users want to "graduate up" to hosting providers? As a provider, that's the last thing I want.
    • Isn't WHM geared to providers, sysadmins, and expert users? Have these users complained to you and demanded that WHM looks like cPanel?
The stated reasoning for the change to Jupiter looks like a solution in search for a problem to me. I'll also add this. In which ways does the existence of Paper Lantern prevent Jupiter from working? Why not keep both and let users decide? You could even monitor usage.

Thanks for the additional thoughts. We've mentioned before how maintaining two different interfaces just isn't practical, and the plan for the future is to move forward with Jupiter and to deprecate Paper Lantern. If you have specific concerns with Jupiter please let us know or open a feature request and we'll see if that is something we can address.

There's an easier way: kill Jupiter and keep Paper Lantern. Unless there are real reasons for the change, but it seems they don't stand up to scrutiny. It's starting to sound like one of those whimsical decisions made from "higher up" that you have no choice but to implement, no matter the resistance from customers or even from inside the company. That's a shame, really...

I think the icons are only available at WHM level rather than CPanel account level.

According to the documentation, Jupiter should have icons as well :

I've used Cpanel for over a decade and this is the first time I've considered changing my host. You guys say you want to make it easier, but right now it's harder for me. The old interface was already easy, that's why I picked Cpanel over the others, because it was the easiest and cleanest out there. Personally I feel like this new theme is going backwards. Maybe a few fixes could make it stronger?
    • Jupiter only uses 1/3 of my screen. I can't believe it's aligned left, at least make it centered, but seriously, why not make it stretch to full screen? That just doesn't make any sense to put it aligned left!
    • These colors and font combination make it difficult to read. There is no color separation and everything bleeds together. The new icons help a little, but there is just too much text on the screen and not enough separation.
    • Why would you remove the search on the top left and leave only the search on the far right side of the screen? Now every time I search I've got to move the cursor all the way across the screen to search, what a waste of time, especially for people with larger screens and higher resolution.
I have to admit that at first I was very angry, and wrote a completely different post, but as I went back to gather information about the theme I realized that it's not entirely bad, just needs some tweaks. Overall I am happy with Cpanel, but this theme got me in my feelings. I really hope you guys are hearing this and are able to update the theme to a more usable state! Thanks for listening.

I blasted them on the private "Tell us what you think..." for the same points. I don't get what you mean about 1/3 of screen, though. Mine makes use of full width. Screenshot? Colors and UI... Yes! SO hard to navigate visually! Moving the search, and how it works is a pain! It DOES give more info that the old one, which I like. BUT, has anyone else noticed that many of the results have NO connection to the search term?

Sorry, that was for cpanel client side. WHM does use full screen on the home page. My resolution is 3440x1440. I guess technically it's more like 1/2 of the page, but I'm really talking about the important part which is the middle section.

Right off the bat I search for "Calendar" and get a bunch of results, none of which reference anything to do with a calendar and none of them are for the "Contacts & Calendar Plugin" which is what I was searching for.

Ok, I get it now. Yeah, no need for max-width IMO. Regarding search: Glad it's not just me! lol I hope cPanel is following this, because the search result issue needs to be fixed (AND moved to the left side :) ).

I really think that maybe the community or someone who is an expert can recreate the theme pappern, the truth is that everything is very strange as it was, it was much more understandable, now cpanel looks really horrible... :(

I suppose we will need to move back to RVskin, which we had used in the past. Paper Lantern had made it unnecessary. I wonder if there are any compatibility problems due to Jupiter, I hope not.
