How should I properly resize a server running cpanel, php, mysql web app

I was wondering if anyone had any tips or proper procedure I should take to resize up a server (on linode) running cpanel & whm and subsequent php mysql web app, especially so nothing gets corrupted or settings misconfigured. thanks!
