Hey there! It's possible that frequent hostname changes will lock the license on the system, as that is just one way that fraudulent users try and get around the license detection system. It's best to email cs@cpanel.net if you need to get in touch with that team as that address is constantly monitored.

And if we were to make a hostname change. How should we proceed in order not to get the license and service blocked?

Normally I wouldn't expect a hostname change to get the license locked. This would only happen if there were frequent changes to the hostname.

I've had this issue too - cPanel changes the hostname on install, change it back and you're stuck waiting for your license to be unlocked.

cPanel will only change the hostname during the installation if the current hostname is either invalid or doesn't resolve in DNS. We do this to avoid the security warning when users first access WHM, as seeing a security warning right after a clean install confuses some users.

For what I have seen in cPanel documentation, I shouldn't use a hostname that a cPanel account will use, then if I host domain.com I can't change my hostname to cloud.hostname.com although the dns are outside the server?

It's not necessarily that an account won't use - it's just that specific subdomain should not be used for web content. My personal machine is host.domain.com and I definitely use domain.com as that is a very common configuration for the hostname.

You definitelly can use cloud.hostname.com as the hostname, but you should not use cloud.hostname.com for a cPanel account.

That's what I thought as I won't use service.hostname.com as a cPanel account, but the documentation made me think of not being able to use it as a hostname if i had the domain hosted as an account.

Can you let me know which specific documentation you were looking at? I'd be happy to look it over and see if we can make it less confusing.

The two points in there that could be causing confusion are these: -Do not choose a hostname that a cPanel account on your server will use. -Do not choose a potential service subdomain as a hostname (for example, cpanel.example.com or whm.example.com).
cPanel accounts can be created with subdomains, so as long as you don't do that you're all set.
