Hello, We've to wait until their next update/release. We hope it'll not take too longer.

Version 9 has only been out for a few weeks, so it's still going to be a bit. We're hoping to have an announcement near the end of this year or early next year, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Hi @cPRex This thread appears to be the only info I could find on cpanel and AL9 - suggest someone could update the official docs...

Dude, you are lucky. We wasted hours only to find out that you have to specifically state to install MariaDB during a cPanel install. The default is MySQL. Detailed info was in a separate KB article

cPanel is really slow at adapting to new software. I know it needs to be tested but there are Alphas and Betas. You don"t have to wait a release, do you?

I just want to add this statement.. Bleeding edge software doesn't make for a professional stable secure platform.

I know but I have to add: Having an old/common one one does not make it secure either. And I have been on the edge for 11 years and never had a security problem at all.

I have an EPYC ROME 64 core server and I want to get the most out of it. Simple as that.

What are you referring to as bleeding edge? AlmaLinux appears to be fairly stable and a year old. Also, as far as I can tell, it's a 1:1 likeness of RHEL (very similar to Centos), so not really anything to worry about as there are no discernible differences (I could be wrong!) However, we have installed it on a development server, so that we can have a play.... so in that case, it's not a production server concern. But yes... it would be nice if documentation could be kept up to date.... though to be fair, cPanel does a reasonable job at that.... I've seen a lot worse!! AND yes - I did have to delete MySQL and replace with MariaDB....

What are you referring to as bleeding edge?

Specifically version 9: I've been running 8.x for a while now, on a number of different servers, cPanel and others. [Elevate (from C7) on one cPanel server screwed things up though, yet worked fine elsewhere. It's likely improved now.] Alamalinux 8 from scratch has been flawless for me.

Hi there Rex. For those of us still running CentOS 7, would you recommend to WAIT until Almalinux 9 is fully tested and supported to cPanel, so that we might skip AL8? That would save the time afforded to upgrade servers from AL8 to AL9... I guess it would be far better.

I wouldn't wait - I'd do Alma8 sooner than later. It's very likely there will be an Elevate tool to go from Alma 8 to 9, although I don't have any official details on that, but that seems to be the way things are headed.

I tried Elevate on a CENTOS7 and the server went almost unbootable. So I'm not trusting Elevate a lot by now. It must be polished yet.

So, no Alma 9 support in 108?

There is no official support for AlmaLinux 9 just yet - there will be a major announcement when that happens.

Well, the "elevate" script is a POS - at least when running Centos 7. AL 9 has been out for almost half a year now and there STILL is no support for it? Pretty pathetic, especially considering the price cpanel hikes every few months. Even DA managed to get their control panel runnning on AL 9... wow...

Almalinux 8.5 is very stable, I do not understand why you stubbornly want to use an operating system that is not yet stable. New is not always good. Almalinux 8 has a lifetime until 2029. Get out of the panic attack crisis and start with almalinux 8. :) Note: We are using almalinux 8.5 on our 2 servers with epyc processors.

Besides what @vacancy said, the time a thread has been created isn't related to development time. I can say that our developers have created an AlmaLinux 9 installer, but there's still some things that aren't quite ready for prime time. I would think by version 112 we'll have some more updates on that OS.

I'm glad to hear that and so I could install Almalinux9 without installing version 8 first.

@ruyman - at this point you should not be using version 9 with cPanel.

I wanted to say that I will install it when the official version is available. From what you said before, there is less time left.

It's urgent that cPanel+WHM support Almalinux 9 *asap* Migrating hosting accounts between past-EOL versions is time consuming, costly, and occasionally risky. AlmaLinux 8 only has active support until May '24 (just over a year from now), but (mercifully) security support until March '29. Whereas AlmaLinux 9 has active support until May '27, and security support until May '32

hello, I have successfully installed cpanel 112 on almalinux 9 . everything seems to work but there is always the disturbing warning that cpanel does not support almalinux 9 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! since I have to put it into production what do I do? I'm waiting? do we have a date? or do I roll back to almalinux 8 ? Thank you

@leonep - AlmaLinux 9 is still experimental, so while you may be able to install it under version 112, it's not officially production-ready, so the warning is correct.

What kind of bad thing? If it's something that you think I can reproduce, you can share it here and I'll do some testing. If it's a possible security issue, please email security@cpanel.net so they can check it out.
