Should I redirect my hostname?

Hi, I have a small VPS. Server name: example.com Hostname: server.example.com When I go to server.example.com, I get my VPS provider default page (standard). Whats best practices here, should I (not sure I can but should be able to), redirect my hostname to my server name? Or would that mess something up?
