Domain - Email Forwarding Only - Junk Mail Folder
Hi,
If we have a domain that is configured to forward emails only. No Mailbox. Does SpamAssasin scan and tag emails that are being forwarded? For example, if the domain is testdomain.com, and email forwarding is set to mike@testdomain.com forwards to mike@google.com will SpamAssasin tag and deliver anything it sees as spam for mike@testdomain.com, or does it ignore it and forward the emails as-is?
I ask because we have a domain that is configured to forward emails only where SpamAssasin has tagged and delivered emails to the Junk folder of the local default mailbox. But these tagged emails were addressed to (for example) sales@testdomain.com which is not configured to forward emails. But if this same email that was tagged as spam was sent to the forwarding address mike@testdomain.com would it have been forwarded/delivered as is or tagged, or would it end up in the Junk folder of the default local mailbox? I hope this makes sense. :)

Hey hey! SpamAssassin actually has an option you can enable to NOT forward junk. You can find this in WHM >> Exim Configuration Manager under "Do not forward mail to external recipients if it matches the Apache SpamAssassin" internal spam_score setting" so you'll want to make sure that is set how you wish. 0 -

Thanks for the info, just to be clear, we have a domain that is set up with email forwarding only, no mailboxes other than the default one that is created when you create a domain. If an email comes in for that forwarding email address, does SpamAssasin scan it and if it tags it as SPAM it will continue to forward the email to the recipients address rather than dump it in the local default mailbox's Junk folder? I ask because I noticed spam accumulating in the default mailbox's Junk folder although they weren't sent to the forwarding email address but to another address with the same domain. I guess I can create a rule to dump anything sent to the Junk folder to keep it cleaned out and not waste storage space. Anyway as long as the tagged spam is forwarded then I'm cool with that. Thank you!0 -
Yes it will, if you have that option set to "Off" 0
