How did you change the hostname? There is a WHM screen to change it.

I used /usr/local/cpanel/bin/set_hostname to set my hostname even though I had done so in WHM. Both say the correct hostname I edited /etc/hosts to remove the offending host name I deleted the certificates and ran /usr/local/cpanel/bin/checkallsslcerts EDIT: Cpanel is still looking for the offending hostname and winds up on the certificates The system will attempt to install a certificate for the "cpanel" service from the cPanel store. Undoing previous HTTP DCV setup (/var/www/html/.well-known/pki-validation/omitted.txt) " " complete. The system does not control "[omitted].cprapid.com". (Checking for previous DNS DCV setup anyway ") Enqueueing undo of previous DNS DCV setup (CNAME _omitted.gabby.mycockerspaniel.com) " Undoing DNS DCV setup " " done. [omitted]cprapid.com: No DNS DCV setup exists.

Do you see the old hostname present inside the Apache configuration file? (/etc/apache2/conf/httpd.conf)

Thanks for the replies. Fixed by support ticket. They explained why this happens and how to remove old server names:
