Send Configserver Mailscanner RBL lookups to remote DNS
Hello,
We switched to Config Server's Mailscanner for spam and virus protection and our new server utilises pDNS over Bind.
Sadly for us, pDNS that comes with cPanel is not a caching nameserver and so we're constantly running up against the infernal "Your query was blocked" when the system attempts to query IP addresses in RBLs. We could in theory shell out for unfettered access but I wanted to pitch this first.
CFS Mailscanner, from what I gather, uses spamassassin's feature set but spamassassin itself is disabled and doesn't play nice if enabled alongside CFS's Mailscanner.
Is it possible to implement a remote caching DNS server (Bind) that would solely manage RBL queries handed off to it by Mailscanner?
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf has the option to set a DNS server 'dns_server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'.
Before going out and buying a vps, installing cPanel's DnsOnly purely to test if it works has anyone here actually deployed such a thing?
If we didn't run the MSFE and/or pDNS it would be such an easy fix that in turn would reject the deluge of spam we're currently receiving.
I did ask the same question on the CS forums but despite plenty views there have been no replies.
Thanks!
