WordPress Password

I would like to ask the question as this is all new for me and I hope someone could help. I order new website design but it is not from USA and the website is in wordpress, so developer asked for my username and password of cpanel in order to upload new website, I was sceptic about his but I decided to give him and website started working without problem. I paid him and all done. I changed password after that on the cpanel and my website not working on any search engine its error page. After I changed password back to original website started working so I was wondering if is there some trick or he played me even I paid him in full? What should I do? I don`t like to share this password and is there way to do this and keep the files or no? Please help me. Thank you!

  Hello :) Check to see if the database configuration for WordPress is connected to the cPanel username. It's possible you need to update the password in the database configuration after updating the cPanel password. Or, you may need to switch to a new database username/password. Thank you.

  When changing the password in cPanel, deselect "Allow MySQL password change". or if you do change the mysql password" edit wp-config.php and enter the new password on the line with DB_PASSWORD in it.
