cant login to cPanel but can with ssh ?

I changed my root password using the passwd command at the command prompt in a shell but now when i try and login using ftp or on port 2087 for WHM i get a message saying the Login is invalid have stopped cphulk and csf to no avail, whitelisted ip in both anyways. Any ideas ?

  Hello, Please check your login logs at : /usr/local/cpanel/logs/login_log

  Are you sure you white listed the IP? I have done something similar to that and inadvertently blocked my IP. But if not try changing your password back.

  Hello :) Root access to FTP is typically disabled by default. You should not be able to access FTP as "root" unless you have specifically enabled that ability. For WHM, try changing the password again to make sure you are entering the correct password during access attempts. Thank you.
