CSF - What would happen without it?
Hi,
This is more of a theoretical question... but also based on my recent circumstances.
Following some possibly unusual increases in bandwidth and some research on the forums - I installed the Config Server Firewall.
Checking the servers security using the tool, and watching the log files etc to see how much work it is doing protecting the server - I can't help but wonder: how did my server survive for so many years without it?!
Would you guys say the standard Apache/Centos/cPanel set up that existed before hand would have been able to repell/handle most of the attacks I can now see happening? Or was the server most likely getting blasted from all angles?
Appreciate this is a bit of a noob question - so don't worry about being patronising I won't be offended.

Hello :) It's true that the likelihood of system compromise decreases with a firewall and security utility such as CSF. Note that version 11.40 of cPanel includes a security advisor to help detect common issues that can contribute to reduced security on your system. It's scheduled to be pushed out to the "Release" build tier in late October/early November, however that is subject to change based upon testing. It's already pushed out to the Edge/Current build tiers. Thank you.0 -
