Root password for WHM and SSH suddenly changed
I logged into WHM today to change a password on a cPanel account. I didn't synchronize the password initially and was wondering why I couldn't FTP to that account. All of a sudden though the password to WHM changed. I couldn't log in to WHM anymore with my previous password. I tried the one I assigned to the cPanel account just in case I messed up, but that didn't work either. I was able to SSH to the server and change the password with command "passwd" thinking that would change my WHM password as well, but it didn't. Now I can't SSH into the server or log into WHM with any of the passwords.
How am I supposed to resolve this now without the correct password for root access? Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Nevermind. I guess I was locked out temporarily. Not sure why. I'm able to log in again.

Hello :) Do you have cPhulkd enabled on your system? It's possible the "root" username was locked out due to failed login attempts. You may want to add your IP address to the cPhulk white list to ensure it's not blocked in the future. Thank you. 0 -

Yes it does, it's the same password, it does not matter if you change it in WHM or in SSH command prompt.0 -

May be because you are now trying to login from a different IP :)0
